FAQ

Q: Do you sell clay?

A: Yes, in small amounts, for $1 per pound. I have several cone 5 and cone 10 clays available. Alpha Fired Arts and Industrial Minerals Company (IMCO) are the main suppliers for this region, and you will find it cheaper to go to them directly. Retail is not my main focus.

Q: Do you provide studio time?

A: No, this place is too small.

Q: Do you teach night classes?

A: Sometimes I do, when I get 4 interested people.

Q: Do you give private lessons?

A: Yes. The fee is $30.00/hr, plus any materials or firings, for one person. With 2 people, it's $40.00/hr plus materials

Q: Do you use Venmo, take credit cards, use social media, etc.?

A: No.

Q: Do you work with charter schools?

A: No.

Q: Do you provide firing services?

A: Not usually, although I will for former students.

Q: Are the pieces I make dishwasher and microwave safe?

A: We don't own either appliance, so I can't say. High iron glazes will heat up in a microwave. Some of my students have used the dishwasher for their pottery, with no problem.

Q: What's up with the road?

A: Lots of potholes on the last stretch! Please drive 10MPH or less on the last 1/4 mile.

Q: Do I need to bring anything?

A: You may wish to bring an apron, especially if you are working on the wheel. If you do, it must be washed after every class. Long fingernails are a hassle-it's far easier if you clip them before class. Also, remove watches and bracelets, etc., for wheel work. If you have a specific idea in mind, definitely bring sketches (nothing fancy) or photos. Hair ties are useful (if you are working on the wheel), and it's best to have sleeves that can be rolled up (and stay up!). Some high-iron glazes and clays can stain your clothes.
