I offer classes for adults and children ages 9 and up. Kids need to be able to follow instructions, not touch artwork belonging to other people, be willing to clean up after themselves, etc. (Well, so do adults, as far as that goes...). I will sometimes teach younger kids, but I think it's more cost effective to let them play with plasticine clay until they are well-coordinated and patient enough to get the full value of my classes.

Each class is 2 hours long, and held once a week or on alternating weeks. Class size is small, usually 4 students. This allows everyone ample one-on-one instruction for challenging projects. Classes are usually a mix of beginner and more experienced students.

New students learn the traditional forming methods: coiling, pinching, slab forming, sculpting, using molds and wheel throwing.

After that, I recommend various projects that will expand their experience and technical know-how, or the student can look within to find out what subjects, ideas or techniques are most appealing, and pursue those.

Students have a huge range of choices for projects: everything from dinnerware sets and water fountains to sculptures of people, animals and fantasy creatures.

Classes are usually a mix of wheel throwing, hand building and sculpting, since most people want to try out different forming methods.

I enjoy creating an environment where you can feel comfortable exploring your creativity, so that you can make artwork you're proud of.
